VERTU’s Ruby Button: A Tribute to the Imperial Crown

On 2 June 1953, Queen Elizabeth II became the 39th sovereign – and the sixth Queen – to be crowned at Westminster Abbey. She was driven from Buckingham Palace to the royal church in the Gold State Coach. Designed by Norman Hartnell, the gown featured the emblems of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth in gold and silver thread. Her Majesty wore the George IV State Diadem – the crown depicted on Great Britain’s stamps, which features roses, shamrocks and thistles with 1,333 diamonds and 169 pearls – to the televised ceremony.

Crafted in 1838 for Queen Victoria, the British Imperial State Crown glitters like a constellation of stars. The sapphire is said to have come from a ring worn by Edward the Confessor. The spectacular Cullinan II diamond was discovered in South Africa in 1905. And at the centre sits a hypnotic gemstone known as ‘The Black Prince’s Ruby’.

Symbolising royalty and power, this crimson stone is the inspiration for the ruby button on the side of the VERTU phone. Before VERTU, no one used the rubies for buttons, meaning that we had to develop special machines to cut them. The VERTU ruby button is fashioned to fit the phone perfectly while also being pleasing to the touch. With one tap on the jewel, you can access a personal concierge service that opens the door to an aristocratic lifestyle.

At present, cell phones have evolved beyond mere communication devices to become intelligent terminals that seamlessly connect us to the world and integrate into our daily lives. Amidst the ongoing wave of innovation in the cell phone industry, the personal assistant service on VERTU cell phones stands out as a perfect blend of luxury and convenience.
